Hotels

Mercure Leicester The Grand Hotel

Granby St, Leicester LE1 6ES, UK – 0844 815 9012

Wonderful birthday treat from work colleagues. A beautiful restaurant in a beautiful Hotel. The staff were friendly and attentive. My meal was delicious and the wine gorgeous.

Marco Pierre White restaurant. Contemporary feel and excellent Italian food. Not so expensive as the name suggests. Very affordable, exquisitely presented and extremely tasty food. Attentive staff, nothing is too much trouble.

The Belmont Hotel, Leicester

20 De Montfort Square, Leicester LE1 7GR, UK – 0116 254 4773

Friendly staff, great food and pleasant surroundings. Lots of little areas to relax, have a drink, read or use a laptop around the downstairs area. I can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay.

Love the combination of oldie world meets contemporary. Great atmosphere here, professional helpful Staff. Lovely place for a peaceful midday snack away from the city, even if you are not a resident. Also had Christmas Day dinner here which was lovely

Holiday Inn Leicester

129 St Nicholas Cir, Leicester LE1 5LX, UK – 0871 942 9048

This hotel has a beautifully modern lobby, bar, and breakfast area. The room was well appointed, and thanks to the USB ports in the outlets, I was able to keep my devices charged, as my travel adapter for my trip never arrived before leaving. My only gripe was that the bath and shower were elevated off the bathroom floor. I am a shorter guy, so having to raise my knees to my chest (figuratively) to get in the shower was quite annoying, and stepping down more than a foot while wet was a safety concern in and of itself. Would return if my travels ever brought me back to Leicester, however. Thank you for your accommodations.

Lovely stay, room was perfect, it was quiet and peaceful and I had all the facilities a business traveller requires. Food was better than average. Would have given 5 stars if I hadn't had to call 3-4 times and wait 15 minutes to get room service. However, the staff member on reception was swift to deal with the busier than average demand, the catering staff member who delivered the meal to my room was polite and apologised for the delay, as did the reception staff member when I mentioned the problem on checking out. Holiday Inn staff really do try their best to make your stay pleasant, even when things do go wrong, which is why they're still my number one choice of hotel for business trips home and abroad.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Rutland & Derby Arms - Pub, Kitchen & Garden

21 Millstone Ln, Leicester LE1 5JN, UK – 0116 262 3299

Great pub, one of my go-to's whenever I'm up in Leicester. The staff are friendly with a great selection of drinks. It's very tastefully decorated and has a lovely beer garden, including a roof terrace - Great on a warm summers evening with a cold glass of white wine!

Watched the world cup in the upstairs dining room, excellent venue, screen and sound setup. Service quick and friendly. Food is decent, in the middle of the price range for a Green king pub.

The Old Horse

198 London Rd, Leicester LE2 1NE, UK – 0116 254 8384

As I'm typing this my partner is enjoying a massive bowl of bread and butter pudding and ice cream. The food was gorgeous. Massive meals for an excellent price and the staff are so so friendly. Very happy pub and very very happy customers. Only passing through, originally from derby so completely unbiased.

Called in this morning whilst doing the Mild Trail. I was delighted to find there were two Real Ale milds on offer along with the full range of Everard's ales and some guest ales. Hot food was available for lunch. I was quickly served. The pub was neat and clean. There is a huge garden to the rear with lots of picnic style table/seats as well as assorted children's (and more grown-up children's!) toys scattered across it including a climbing frame fort.

Swan and Rushes

19 Infirmary Square, Leicester LE1 5WR, UK – 0116 233 9167

The Bar Lady is extremely helpful because my friend is in a wheelchair and treats us with the up most respect

Lovely place, very happy it's our new local. Great selection of beers, pizza on Friday and weekends, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Also it's not over busy on match days which is a bonus! Great work, keep it up :)

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Absolutely fantastic apartment, everything works as it should, beautiful views and excellent customer services. This apartment made me feel like I was abroad and the agent was very approachable, I requested a rice cooker and baby cot on arrival and it was put in my apartment by the time I had a shower. All round excellent experience and I highly recommend to anyone staying in Leicester.

You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Grafton House

7 Saxby St, Leicester LE2 0ND, UK – 0116 254 0350

Very nice and friendly staff. Quick check in. B&B runs by Family. Quiet area. I had very spacious room. Spare bathroom. Clean and tidy. Just noisy guests next door

Shared bathroom, everything looks a bit old. Flat screen with cable tv in the room, and a sink, quite useful. You get what you pay.

Spindle Lodge

2 W Walk, Leicester LE1 7NA, UK – 0116 233 8801

A convenient place to stay where is near the university and railway station. The host is a friendly lady who is always welcoming you. I had booked a single room. The room is comfortable, the bathroom and toilet are clean. The hostel is located in a quiet zone. If you want to find a place with good location and reasonable price, I recommend Spindle Lodge.

Lovely hotel with lovely clean rooms and a very warm welcome would love to stay again!

Croft Hotel

3 Stanley Rd, Leicester LE2 1RF, UK – 0116 212 0327

Beautiful building, our room had high ceilings and huge bay window. Was clean and warm with everything we needed, but in need of a refurb. Staff were friendly. Good location, short walk to local restaurants. Great value for money, would recommend.

Turned up early due to commitments. Staff made every effort to get me into my room before my booking in time. 5/5 can't fault

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
